Poetry Readings

About

(this page is a part of chrismikesell.com)

When I made this blog and its one entry in 2006, Diogenes in Gotham was intended as a flash fiction detective ‘zine. Clearly, that did not pan out.

Since then, much has happened, and I’ve shifted from prose to poetry, but Raymond Chandler’s observation that “In everything that can be called art there is a quality of redemption,” still rings true, and the model of a man I hold myself up against is Chandler’s ideal detective: “He is the hero; he is everything. He must be a complete man and a common man and yet an unusual man. He must be, to use a rather weathered phrase, a man of honor — by instinct, by inevitability, without thought of it, and certainly without saying it. He must be the best man in his world and a good enough man for any world…”

Hopefully, this iteration of Diogenes in Gotham, devoted to art and my thoughts and experiences as a poet, will be more successful than the ‘zine. Time will tell, but such is still my faith.
